Champagne Pommery is a key part of the much larger Vranken Pommery Monopole Group, and has been around since 1857 when a late second child and a failing wool industry forced Alexandre Pommery to come out of retirement and try his hand at creating Champagnes.
The legacy of both his and his wife’s efforts are today reflected in the houses’ bright bottles, multitude of varietals and very notable estate, with some of the most interesting architecture in Champagne.
Today, we are trying the houses’ “Summertime” blanc de blancs. A little on the pricier end of Pommery’s champagne spectrum, it offers a slightly sweeter full chardonnay experience with 10 g/l dosage, than others do.

In the Glass:
Look: Soft golden hue, with plentiful streams of fine bubbles.
Smell: A hit of fresh and rich yeasty, bready notes, with a strong note of fresh citrus.
Taste: A sip of Summertime brings about a refreshing hit of light toasted honey sweetness, which transforms into a tang that has elements of lemon and grapefruit, cut through with the flavour of a fresh green apple. The high-ish sugar content helps lift the fruit profile and makes it enjoyable.
Summertime BdB has a zesty and fresh middle. Very well balanced, it never tips to being too harsh. It holds its line well and doesn’t really change into anything else. Finish length is pretty decent too!
Overall, the depth (strength and intensity of the flavour on the tongue) isn’t sensationally strong, it does feel a touch watered down – but that doesn’t really take away from the enjoyment anyway.
Such as easy drink to enjoy, especially chilled down to 6 degrees. The colder: the cleaner, crisper, sharper and better.
Recommendations:
Party Potential: This Pommery is simply too expensive for a large scale soiree. It is also in limited supply! It would stand up well as a BYO offering.
As a Gift: Pommery Summertime would make a great gift for someone, even if they aren’t familiar with the house. It’s colourful and vibrant labelling plays to being something to enjoy quickly.
At Home: I feel as though its best reserved for special ad-lib celebrations and occasions outdoors on the balcony with fresh seafood. In my case, this was matched to a nice and fresh Haloumi pasta.
Score & Verdict:

At $90 I feel it is reasonable value for the quality.
